After application for service is received Wellsboro Electric will contact you to schedule a field visit and complete any additional paperwork that is needed. The Customer’s equipment as determined by Wellsboro Electric shall be installed and maintained in accordance with the provisions of the latest National Electric Code. Wellsboro Electric will not connect service until all Customer owned equipment has been inspected by an approved electrical inspector and a certificate of inspection has been received. Wellsboro Electric will furnish and maintain the necessary meters, transformers, and service line for secondary service extending from its distribution lines to the point of service connection with the Customer’s equipment. All equipment supplied by the company shall remain it’s exclusive property and may be removed after termination of service for whatever cause. All wiring shall be installed and maintained in accordance with the provisions of the latest National Electric Code. The Company will not connect or remain connected with any Customer’s wiring of facilities until a Certificate of Inspection has been issued and received by Wellsboro Electric. This covers new buildings and modifications involving wiring changes. Wellsboro Electric will run only one service line to a Customer’s premises or install only one meter for each class of service to be supplied except where, in its judgment, special conditions may make more than one necessary. Service lines will not normally be run from building to building. If special conditions warrant it, an exception may be made at the Company’s option. The Customer shall own, maintain and operate all substation and transforming equipment where voltage, phase or frequency is different than normally supplied by Wellsboro Electric. The Customer shall bear the cost of special installations that may be necessary to meet a particular requirement for service (other than standard voltages) if closer than allowable voltage and frequency variation is desired. Where service is supplied at 2400 volts or higher (Primary Power), the Company will extend its facilities to the Customer’s service connection at primary voltage, all equipment after this point will be owned and maintained by the Customer. Single-phase service for lighting will not be supplied where the connected load to be served exceeds 25 KVA of capacity unless previous arrangements have been made with the Company. The Customer must arrange the wiring of loads in excess of this amount to receive polyphase service. Wellsboro Electric will not continue to serve fluctuating loads unless corrective action is taken. When the Customer’s use of equipment having operating characteristics that impose high instantaneous demand, such as welders, hoists, furnaces, x-ray machines, etc., causes undue fluctuation, the Customer must install corrective equipment at their sole expense. The Company will not serve or continue to serve Customer loads where acceptable voltage and phase characteristics cause harmonic distortions. The Company’s service equipment, transformers and meters have a definite limited capacity and the Customer is responsible to notify the Company of any additions to the Customer’s connected load so that adequate facilities can be maintained. The Customer will be responsible for all costs involved to investigate the loss of service and correct the situation. The Customer will be billed for the estimated use of energy that was used. The Company will use reasonable diligence to maintain uninterrupted service, but does not guarantee a constant or regular supply of service and shall not be held liable for damages including loss of business or loss of production due to variations or cessations in such supply. The Customer shall notify the Company of any interruptions or irregularities in service or any known trouble, defect or accident to the supply of service. Due to the sensitive nature of electronic equipment the Customer should provide protection against variations in supply. Surges are sudden sharp increases in voltage. This is the more common type of power disruption. They are usually caused by electrical short circuit or faults, for example animals on the line, trees, lightning, or the use of appliances inside the home, such as a vacuum cleaner.
Wellsboro Electric Company has protection built into its system but cannot control the fluctuations in the lines. While we use a variety of different measures to lessen the impact of these abnormalities, we will never eliminate them.
However, it is relatively easy to guard against power surges by installing surge protection equipment. Surge protection equipment blocks high voltage electricity from passing further through the line. Surge protection equipment helps protect electronic equipment from voltage fluctuations in the lines, before it damages your belongings. Even the smallest surge can damage sensitive electronics, like a computer, VCR or stereo.
Please keep in mind surge protectors are not designed to protect people and property. While it provides considerable protection, a surge protector does not provide complete protection from every power surge.
