12/23/2020 – High volumes in online orders, an increase with coronavirus cases and weather have delayed the delivery of your utility bill by usps.com. We are being told the delay can be anywhere from 2-4 weeks before your paper bill arrives. A means of getting around these delays is to sign up for SmartHub and receive your bill and other information electronically. If you need your account balance, call us at 570-724-3516 or register as a SmartHub user. SmartHub allows you to receive email notifications when your bill is ready, view your billing and payment history or report an outage. To register for SmartHub, click on the SmartHub icon then click on the sign up to access our Self-Service site hyperlink. You will need your account number to register. For more information, contact our office 570-724-3516. Our lobby and drive-up window remain closed to the public. If you want to drop off your payment at our office, you may leave your payment in the payment drop box on the side of the building.
12/3/2020 – The safety and well-being of our employees and customers are of the upmost importance. Due to the increased number of COVID cases in our area, Wellsboro Electric will close the drive-up window effective Monday, December 7, 2020 and our lobby will remain closed until further notice. While our drive-up window is closed, we will waive the third-party credit and debit card convenience fee. To pay with a credit/debit card, call (844) 886-9797 or through SmartHub. If you have never used SmartHub, you will need to register as a user. To register for SmartHub, click on the SmartHub icon on our homepage or download the SmartHub mobile app to pay electronically.
If you typically pay your electric bill at our office, you may leave your check or money order payment along with your payment stub in the payment drop box by our front door. If you do not have your payment stub, be sure to include your name and address with your payment. If you pay by mail, continue to mail your check payment to PO Box 138, Wellsboro PA 16901. 10/01/2020 – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) revised the adjustment in the TCJA Surcharge. The TCJA Surcharge was reduced from 1.4% to 1.2% therefore, the surcharge percentage that took effect on October 1, 2020 was 1.2%. The TCJA will be applied to the distribution costs on our bill. It does not apply to your charges for generation supply or to your charges under Rider CCS.
On July 1, 2018, Wellsboro implemented a distribution rate decrease at the PUC’s request to reflect the estimated impact on the Company’s federal tax payments under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 (TCJA). Under the PUC’s requirements, Wellsboro must compare the estimated impact that was used to calculate the rate decrease to the actual change in federal taxes that the Company experienced. The TCJA Surcharge is implemented to reconcile the PUC’s estimated tax impact with the Company’s actual federal tax change under the TCJA for the period from January 1, 2018 through April 30, 2020.
7/3/2020 – Our drive-up window is open however our lobby will remain closed to the public. Effective July 1, all credit/debit card and e-check payments will incur the third-party convenience fee. This fee is charged by the vendor; Wellsboro Electric does not benefit from the convenience fee. As a regulated utility, we are not permitted to recover these fees because it would affect our customers who choose not to pay with credit card. As an option for customers to pay their bills while our office and drive-up window was closed during COVID, we temporarily waived the third-party convenience fee.
6/30/2020 – If you are struggling to pay your electric bill, please contact our office. We are willing to work with you to setup an adequate payment plan but if you do not tell us, we cannot help you. We encourage you to pay on your account to keep your account balance as manageable as possible.
You may be eligible for a grant from the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Recovery Crisis Program which helps Pennsylvanians during the COVID-19 public health crisis. Benefits may be available if a household: Has their main or secondary energy source completely shut-off, is notified that their utility service will be shut off in the next 60 days, owes funds to a utility provider that would constitute a service termination. Applications are accepted through the COMPASS website www.compass.state.pa.us or by calling the Tioga County Assistance office 570-724-4051.
6/19/20 – Our drive-up window will reopen July 1st to accept payments however, our lobby will remain closed to the public. Our drive-up window hours are Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
As an option for customers to pay their bills while our office and drive-up window was closed during COVID, we temporarily waived the third-party convenience fee. We are aware the convenience fee is a burden but, there are other ways to pay without having to incur the convenience fee. We offer an auto pay option where the amount of your bill is deducted from your bank account on the due date. There is no fee to enroll in auto pay and you still receive your bill statement. You can enroll in auto pay through SmartHub. We accept online bill payments from your bank. Just set us up as a bill payee and the bank does the rest. We do not charge to receive online bill payments from your bank. As always, we accept payments by mail, or you can leave your check or money order payment in the payment drop box by our front door. We appreciate your patience and understanding while the drive-up window was closed. We remain committed to serving our customers 24/7.
3/31/2020 – Wellsboro Electric Company has filed a Default Service Plan with the PA Public Utility Commission for the period June 1, 2021 through May 31, 2025. This plan is subject to Commission approval. Click here to read the Customer Notice.
